I did my first LA signing at meltdown 10 years ago this month. I interned here before college, they ushered me into photography, and clapped when I went back into acting. These guys were the first I told when I booked jughead on Riverdale. #Meltdown cultivated my love of comics throughout my childhood. The lesson here: always look at the floor. When we did move here in 2010 and had dinner with our new friends Jonah and Deanna, I mentioned looking for a venue for a standup show and Jonah suggested Meltdown.
I remember looking at the floor of that office, which was made up of a bunch of riotously painted tiles, and thinking “I want to be here.” Simple as that. The office was what would become the green room of Nerdmelt- how performers got on stage. A guy there invited me to his office within the store (yes it was a weird thing to do, that’s not the point, he wasn’t around while I worked there) and gave me his card. My first time walking into to Meltdown was before I lived in LA, probably 2009. You’ve probably heard by now that and are closing at the end of March. Thank you, Gaston & Co, and the wonderful team of interns, staff, & performers who made it so special. Meltdown was home to such a wonderful community and I am grateful to have been a part of it. I’m glad to send him our customers 30 yr later. We then opened the Fantastic Store #Comicbooks #Records & #toys. I was 14yr of age and in charge of getting him coffee at Green Hell Records. Me and Gaston got some big thangs plannedĪctors, comedians, directors, writers, podcasters and comic book fans alike took to social media to share memories reminisced by the community that Meltdown Comics had created.
